DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nSummary: An introductory workshop to help you get star
ted with basic programming concepts and the Python language. The course is
built around a common scientific task: data analysis and visualisation. I
t will get you up and running quickly with a programming language to do so
mething useful. Python is an open source and freely available tool that is
used widely in the scientific community.\n\n\nObjectives:\n\nWork with th
e basic data types in Python (lists\, strings\, integers\, floating points
\, etc)\nUse Numpy to read data files and handle multidimensional data\nUs
e Matplotlib to visualise data\nRepeat tasks with for loops\nMake runtime
decisions with conditional statements\nWrite and use functions to modulari
se your code\n\n\n\nAudience: This is for complete beginners who have no o
r very little experience with Python and programming in general. If you ha
ve used another programming language to perform useful work\, then it is l
ikely you will not be served well by this course. Please see the learning
paths for how you might jump into Python better or progress with another l
anguage.\n\n\nPrerequisites: Some previous experience with the Unix shell\
, while not strictly mandatory\, is extremely helpful when taking this cou
rse. The concepts around files and directories are particularly important.
Please consider signing up to The Unix Shell (10231) as well.\n\n\nCourse
  content: http://software-training.gitpages.ccfe.ac.uk/programming-with-py
thon/ (VPN required)\n\n\nIf you still have questions about whether a cour
se will be suitable for you or someone you manage\, please get in touch wi
th Matthew Bluteau directly. These courses must be booked through the Uni
t4 Course Catalogue. Left tab menu "Your Employment" > Heading "Your devel
opment" > Click "Course catalogue" > "Course Search" > Search by course na
me or code given below. Your line manager will need to approve your partic
ipation in a course\, so please also consult them in advance\, and you wil
l need to decide on what WON your time should be charged to (we do not cov
 er your time).\n\n\n\nhttps://indico.ukaea.uk/event/750/
