'The Fusion Industry Programme (FIP) Shielding Showcase brings together UKAEA, industry, and suppliers to celebrate the outcomes of the FIP Shielding Challenge. The event provides an opportunity to hear directly from the companies funded through the programme, see the progress they have made, and understand how their innovations could contribute to future fusion power plants and beyond.
During the day, participating suppliers will present their technologies, share lessons learned from working with UKAEA, and discuss the potential next steps for development and collaboration. The showcase is also intended to encourage networking and knowledge exchange—connecting innovators with funders, researchers, and partners who may be interested in supporting or applying these solutions in fusion and related sectors.
The projects on display explore new materials, manufacturing methods and design approaches to protect people, plant, and infrastructure from neutron and gamma radiation. Ideas range from lightweight, low‑carbon shielding materials and smart composite structures, through to modular, reusable shielding concepts for in‑vessel, ex‑vessel, and bioshield applications—many with potential relevance beyond fusion, including fission, medical facilities, construction, and space environments.'
