Welcome to the Fusion PHD Open Day 2026!
Join UKAEA and the Fusion Power and Fusion Engineering Centres for Doctoral Training, at Culham Campus on 26 November, from 11:00 to 17:00, to see how you can apply your knowledge to work towards clean and sustainable energy for future generations.
A full agenda is available via the agenda menu. Registered attendees will also have the opportunity to sign up for a tour of JET, MAST-U or MRF.
UKAEA operated and now decommissions the world leading JET fusion experiment and runs the MAST Upgrade compact fusion; undertakes a range of technology programmes in key areas such as robotics, materials testing, tritium science and component testing and validation and is embarking on a major fusion prototype powerplant design programme – STEP.
The Fusion Power CDT is a collaboration between six leading UK universities, to provide co-ordinated doctoral training inkey fusion relevant disciplines - materials science, plasma physics, nuclear physics, technology, laser physics, instrumentation & related topics.
The Fusion Engineering CDT is a collaboration between four leading universities, offering a 4-year EngD programme that will develop the UK ‘fusioneer’ community. Working together with UKAEA’s skills programme and the UK industrial supply chain, this CDT offers bespoke training to learn how to design, build and operate the first fusion energy power plants.
Come along to our open day and…
- take a tour behind the scenes at various fusion facilities at Culham.
- network with academics and current students from a range of universities and the Fusion Power and Fusion Engineering CDTs.
- find out more about postgraduate opportunities in fusion and related research.
- attend talks to learn about the different areas of fusion research and
- more information on fusion PhDs.
