Step inside the Fusion Technology Facility in Rotherham and discover more about how we’re harnessing the power of the stars! Our open day offers you a unique opportunity to see in-person how we are developing the technology to provide sustainable fusion energy.
A typical visit lasts around 1 hour and includes:
- An introduction to fusion – what is it and how does it work?
- Work hall tours – see our facilities and understand more about the work on your doorstep
- Science workshops and activities
- Q&A with UKAEA staff – bring your questions and curiosity
- Meet Spot – our robot dog
- Build a LEGO tokamak – plus a prize for the winning design
- Refreshments available.
Getting here
The Fusion Technology Facility is located on the Advanced Manufacturing Park, just off Junction 33 of the M1 and signposted from the Sheffield Parkway A630.

By car: Parking is available in the neighbouring McLaren car park.
By train: The nearest train station is Woodhouse (WDH), located at Station Road, S13 7RF. The main station is Sheffield (SHF), located at Sheaf Street, S1 2BP.
By bus: The bus stops are approximately a 10-minute walk from site. Routes 73, 74, X54 , X74, A1 , 41 are the local buses connecting to Sheffield and Rotherham.
Advice/Restrictions
- Children below the age of 9 are not allowed to attend. Anyone below the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- People with pacemakers and/or similar medical implants may not be able to access a few areas on tours for health and safety reasons.
