About the Fusion Technology Facility
The Fusion Technology Facility is situated on the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham. The FTF opened in 2020 and is the primary hub for research into the testing and manufacturing of materials to develop the work on fusion power plants. FTF now employs over 75 people and works closely with colleagues at the Culham campus in Oxfordshire, industry professionals and universities. The work at the Facility feeds into the UKAEA’s plans for STEP, the UK’s first fusion energy power plant which is based at the former coal-fired station in West Burton, North Nottinghamshire.
About UKAEA
We lead the world in fusion research and development including plasma and tritium science, robotics, materials testing and development. Our top scientists and engineers are working with partners around the globe to develop fusion as a new source of clean energy for generations to come.
